Building Your Dream Home - Watch It

If you missed all three events of the 3-part series on BUILDING YOUR DREAM HOME, from my Brick and Wonder community in partnership with the Financial Times, watch all of them them NOW!

The series began with a discussion about how to select property and assemble a team, including finding a broker, architect, general contractor, landscape architect, interior designer, and others to help you realize your vision.

Ellie and Jeff, clients of architect Deborah Berke and landscape architect Bruce Bennett, and the owners of Sackett Hill House, a 3,100 sq ft contemporary home, completed in 2017 in Warren, Connecticut, and honored by the American Institute of Architects with a merit award in 2020, shared their story together with the designers.

Once a client has hired an architect and other specialists, as well as a builder, a dream home project can really get underway. The second panel discussion focused on what to expect from the design and build process: a small army of collaborators, budgets and timelines, fantasies, and pitfalls.

Client Robert White, who owns and lives in one of the apartments at 15 Clerkenwell Close in London, and architect Amin Taha shared the considerations going into their project.

The third and final episode was on "The Big Reveal" - moving into a newly completed architect-designed home at the end of a project. This discussion focuses on a project called Bigwood Residence, a 6,500 sq ft modern retreat located in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The Panelists included the client Jack Anderson, architect Tom Kundig, general contractor Jim Dow, and interior designer Carol Schaeffer.
